Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge Monarch Garden
- Video
Volunteers install a monarch garden at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
Monarch butterfly is an endangered species.
Monarch gardens provide breeding grounds and food for four generation of butterflies as they journey north every spring through summer from the mountains of central Mexico to the United States and Canada.
Planting monarch gardens helps to assure that every fall there will be monarchs to migrate south to overwintering roost sites site in the central mountains of Mexico.
